Linear Reciprocating Test Module
UTS TRIBOLOG can perform pin-on-disk and ball-on-disk tests in the linear reciprocating motion mode.
This module has been developed to characterize the friction and wear behavior of the materials and systems having such moving/motion systems.
The system is designed with a wide parametric selectivity. The adaptation of the module to the existing main machine is very easy.
This module can work together with dry and oily environments, corrosive media, and electro-tribocorrosion modules.
In addition, this module can also be offered with the option of working in a heated oil environment.
-
The working stroke can be easily changed and fixed.
-
This module has a basic motion mode that also serves some other sub-modules.
-
With this module, the tribological tests can be performed by ASTM G33 (Standard Test Method for Linearly-Reciprocating Ball-on-Flat Sliding Wear).
-
Special holes and holders are made on the movable table for easy attachment of samples. Therefore, it is possible to work with samples of any geometry and size.
-
In this module, the wear depth can also be measured precisely by a wear depth measurement sensor.
-
With this module, the friction force is also measured by a very sensitive load-cell paced inside the loading arm.
Test Method
During the tribological tests, pin or ball-type abrasives or wear samples are pressed against the reciprocating plate at a certain frequency and stroke.
During or after the experiment friction coefficient, friction force, wear rate, wear volume, test temperature and many other tribological parameters can be measured and recorded.
With this test module, friction and wear tests can be carried out for a wide variety of material groups and tribological systems.
It is extremely important that these tests can be carried out in both dry and oily environments as well as under different atmospheric conditions.
The tribo-corrosion module working with this basic module can also perform tribological tests in different corrosive environments.
Test Samples
Pin and ball abrasives and plate-type wear samples can be used in this test module.
Special sample holders are available for holding ball or plate-type samples.
Generally, 100Cr6 balls are available as abrasive. But hard abrasive balls such as WC and alumina are also available.
Surface parallelism and roughness level of abrasive plate type samples are extremely important in terms of the reliability and repeatability of the results.
