BLOCK-ON-RING Test Module
Block-on-ring module can be fixed and operated easily on the UTS TRIBOLOG main test platform.
This module is a perfect choice for block-on-ring test configurations.
This module was specially developed for the evaluation of tribological behavior of the systems such as plain bearings, gears, cranks, connecting rods and journal bearings, and cam mechanisms.
With this module, precise friction and wear tests can easily be performed in dry, oily (lubricated), and heated environments.
With the block and ring configuration, it is possible to perform the tests of pairs in point, line, and superficial (conformal and non-conformal) contacts.
In this way, many types of contact in tribological systems can be simulated.
Thanks to its specially designed lubrication cell, the system also provides the possibility of observing and measuring the lubricating effect of tribological systems.
Using this test module, many special tribological tests can be performed in accordance with the standards of ASTM D2981, D3704, G77, G176, D2509, and 2782.
A special container with heating elements was also developed for friction and wear tests in an oily (lubricated) environment.

The module has its own (separate) driving system.

The coefficient of friction/force can be measured on the main machine. But for some special applications, it is also possible to measure the friction force by a separate sensor attached to the module.

A special container with a heating system can also be provided. The tribological test can be carried out up to 200 °C utilizing a special container and heating system.

It is also possible to characterize the friction features of lubricants with this module in different test configurations.

The rotating shaft is well-fitted to prevent deflection under high loads.
Test Method
This module contains a specially prepared test zone. Block type samples with a wide variety of contact geometries and reflecting practical applications can be tested in this test zone.
The opposite surface is mainly used as a ring-type abrasive surface. Tribological tests can be made in dry, oily, and heated environments.
Depending on the test configuration, the properties of the lubricants can also be tested.
With this system, the oil properties of the solid lubricants and the tribological behavior of the coating surfaces can also be characterized.
Test Samples
With this module, many types of test specimens with different contact geometries can be used.
For this purpose, appropriate sample holders and counter working surfaces can be easily modified.
In this sense line, point, conforming and non-conforming contact geometries can be studied.
With this module, tribological tests can be done with real sized samples such as plain bearings and cam mechanisms.
